Due to the Commonwealth Bank Cycle Classic conducting a race in Yarralumla
on Saturday afternoon (12-3pm) I have decided to move the start time of
the Spring Fling to 4.00pm. This will allow the cycle race traffic to
disperse prior to the start of our race.
It is unfortunate that this has to happen but I do not see it as an
impediment to everyone having a successful race. All other details for the race
remain the same, including registration commencing from 1.00pm.
There is some road closure in the immediate vicinity including access from
Commonwealth Ave. The only access into the yacht club will be via Flynn
Drive from State Circle then left into Alexandrina Drive. Marshalls shall be
present and you will be directed towards the club. The best approach heading south
from Commonwealth Ave bridge will be to turn left onto State Circle after
passing the Hyatt and doing a full circle of Parliament House clockwise then turning
left onto Flynn Drive. I encourage you to arrive early in order to overcome any
delays. Also by registering early you will then have the opportunity to watch
some of this great cycling event prior to your own race as it travels
along Alexandrina Drive right in front of the Yacht Club.
I have spoken to Phil BATES the Cycle Classic Race Organiser and he has
assured me that he will assist us where possible. You will not be able to gain
entry along Alexandrina Drive from Yarralumla Bay after 11.00am, so be patient
and we will see you at the yacht club early Saturday afternoon.
The course for this Saturday's Spring Fling is 400m lake swim (1 loop),
16km cycle (1 loop) consisting of departure from Mariners Drive, left into
Alexandrina Drive, into Coronation Drive, left into Commonwealth Ave, over
Commonwealth Ave Bridge, left onto Parkes Way, left onto Lady Denman
Drive, over Scrivener Dam, left onto Cotter Road, onto Adelaide Ave, left into State
Circle then Flynn Drive, left at roundabout into Alexandrina Drive and right into
Mariners Drive at the same point where departed from. The run shall consist of a
4km run (2 X 2km loop) out towards Yarralumla Bay and back.
This course is the same for both the Elite competitors and Age Groupers.
Elite Males shall be the first wave off, with the Elite Females soon afterwards.
Age Groupers shall follow those two waves. The Elite Waves are draft legal.
The Age Group race is non-drafting.
Actual wave times shall be posted on the Race Details Board on race day.
Registration commences at 1.00pm with the race due to start at 4.00pm.
Competitors are encouraged to enter early. Registration shall close
fifteen minutes prior to race start. Entries will not be taken after then.
