ACT 2000 Winter Calendar
In the women's race it was a great day for the older generation. Kim Rowe led Jane Badenoch-Jones (45+) in from the first run, but then dropped well off the pace on the bike. Once on the bike, pre-race favourite Julia Graczyk moved strongly through the field, showing her strength as a cyclist, until flatting at the old crossing then ran the remaining 3km back to transition pushing her bike. Badenoch-Jones led in from the bike, and was never threatened in taking out the win, followed by Jane Roots (35-44) with Kim Rowe chasing hard for third place.
Each category winner received a Mont Activent Vest, perfect for the coming winter cold, 2nd place a $30 voucher from ONYA Bike Warehouse and 3rd a $20 voucher from The Runners Shop. Spot prizes included a Mont Polarfleece jacket and other warm gear, with additional prizes from ONYA Bike, MalAdjusted and The Runners Shop. Gu was also a sponsor with each competitor receiving product in their race pack.
This new race format was enjoyed by athletes from diverse backgrounds including mountain bikers, cross-country and mountain runners, and triathletes. Many had borrowed a MTB just for the race! The next race in the series over 4/16/4 takes place at noon on Sunday June 18.
