David Osmond set up an early lead at the end of the first run over rising local junior Gareth
Halverson. Once onto the bike Gareth made his move, followed by his coach Jeremy Kimpton and 3-time
winter olympian Anthony Evans. The big mover on the bike was Stuart Bardsley with the fastest bike
split of the day, coming off the bike in 3rd position. On the final run Halverson extended his lead
over Kimpton with Bardsley fading, allowing Evans to pick up third place. Osmond put in a strong final
run and just managed to catch Bardsley.
In the women's race Fiona Campbell led from start to finish with Jessica Baird and Carla Ziljstra
(also a 3-time winter olympian) taking the minor placings. Campbell has recently moved to Young from
Wollongong so should be racing locally this summer - one to watch!
The short race saw Jeremy Kimpton romp away in a warm-up for the later race. Steve Richardson again
beat series rival Daniel Luschwitz, cementing his lead in the pointscore. In the women's race newcomer
Kristen Connell showed her speed winning by quite a margin over Karen Daly and Helen Kehoe who came in
with a sprint finish.
